Cannon Beach

One of my favorite spots on the Oregon coast is Cannon Beach.  Best known for Haystack Rock, a 235 ft. structure standing near the end of a four mile stretch of beach, this small coastal community is home to a quaint downtown with good eats, small shops, friendly townspeople, and a number of great vacation rentals.

The first time I visited Cannon Beach, my boyfriend and I stayed at a great little cottage within walking distance of the beach called the Inn at Haystack Rock. The one bedroom cottage sits amongst seven other cottages with a courtyard in the middle. The courtyard and cottages are decorated with unique pieces of art, including a serene Spanish-style fountain in the center of the courtyard. Aside from decorations, the cottages boast some really great accommodations like wireless internet, a dvd player with a library of dvds to rent (at no charge), a  jacuzzi hot tub, and a small kitchen complete with a microwave, mini-fridge, and cupboards filled with silverware, cups, etc.  I would highly recommend it!

Here are some other great spots & activities I’ve enjoyed in and around Cannon Beach:
– Have a bonfire on the beach…firewood is available on the way to Cannon Beach as well as the small convenience store downtown
– Go to Cranky Sue’s for her famous crab cakes or creamy crab dip..both are delicious!
-Try the latest beer on tap at Bill’s Tavern & Brewhouse and if you’re still hungry get the Halibut fish and chips!
-Rent a funcycle at Mike’s Bike Shop and cruise the beach
-Play catch or frisbee on the beach
-Walk out and explore Haystack Rock during low tide
-Depending on where you’re coming from, stop at Tillamook Cheese Factory to pick up some great cheese to snack on(my favorite is Hot Habanero Jack) or have a scoop of fresh-made ice cream on site
